Topics discussed:
1. We would build two groups, with each group doing one learning project
Group 1

•   Working language: English

2. Each of the two groups would register their learning project at: the NetGener.Net course directory. This includes:
•   Identify the working spaces you like to use (wiki, forum, chat, blog) and fill in the URLs to those spaces accordingly
•   To set up objectives and a roadmap for their learning project, including the educational goal (what should be the learning outcome, what do you want to “show”)
•   Registration, objectives and a roadmap should be done within app. one week

Below are the minutes from the chat of 8/5

Topics and desicions that were taken:

4) The wiki is going to be organised into several different pages and when all of them are finished they will be linked.

5) The work is going to be divided into weekly small "milestones" that are to be fullfilled.

6) The "milestones" for next week are: The completion of the project road-map , research to gather all the url's that the group will further analyse, some changes into the wiki.

7) next meeting will be held on 15/5 18:00 Uk/ 19:00 Spain/Sweden 20:00 Greece - time

Here is the summary of the mimutes of our second meeting which took place on the 15th of May. The chat participants was me,Eleni and Pavlos and since we were only Greeks we decided to have the discussion in greek and then present its summary, therefore no chat log will be presented since it is in greek.

Results/Decisions

1) We agreed on the final way that the search for URL's will be carried out and on how we will make the other project members aware of our findings (through the newly developed pages in the wiki )

2) We agreed to further increase our search categories from 4 to 6 since we agreed that further distinction was needed. The final searching topics are: Collaborative platforms, Repositories, Collaborative real-time editors and platforms, Collaborative Websites, Interactive Collaboration Tools and Pages, Quick Sharing Places.

 3) Until the next meeting each group member should search for url's for all of the categories mentioned above and post them in the proper page of the wiki

4) The date of the next meeting was not decided since we were only three persons present. Therefore we require also the opinion of the others on the date. The only thing is that Pavlos will not be available from 24 to 27 and thus this must be taken into account when the date for the next meeting is decided

Please correct me if i forgot/misunderdood something

Chat participants:
Eleni, Georgios, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:

•   All starterd working on different fields that were defined by the group as outlined here: http://dwtdi.wikidot.com/dwtdi
•   Group agreed to upload the results on the wiki until next week and to connect all findings
•   Up to now finding sources was not too difficult; a few searches with Google were enough to find all the major platforms and also lots of reports that distinguish them
•   After bringing the current work online the plan is to show with images and simple examples what kind of place needs a newbie who wants to store and share information. For example: if he wants to write a program he probably needs an svn. Those examples would also include some screenshots of git, bazaar etc showing why it is more convenient. The reason for this approach is, because if we write a lot of things people will get lost. That's why we thought that it is better to add some images instead

Chat participants:
Eleni, Georgios, Juan, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:
•   Some of the current works was already uploaded to the wiki at http://dwtdi.wikidot.com/dwtdi
•   However, a time delay was recognized due to other workloads, but now work should progress as planned
•   There was a general questions about the direction the work should go, in particular how comparisons should be done of the different platforms that are reviewed and which criteria should be applied.
•   It was suggested to use already existing comparisons and criteria from available web sources, including case studies and background information.
•   Those existing resources might be copied to the dwtdi wiki and re-mixed to fit into the learning project structure and objective. To give credit to the work of third persons used all c/p and remixed contents would be properly referenced and might be linked to for follow up information.
•   It is fine to use what is out there, remix it to the dwtdi space so it makes sense and put in some own (intellectual) work by summing things up.
•   C/p is ok if: we make clear where things come from and if the license allows it.
•   Rephrasing might be required to bring existing content into the dwtdi context, so that contents that you c/p makes sense and are connected
•   Using this approach the main original work to be done by each group member is to a.) identify suitable sources, b.) to bring existing sources into the dwtdi project in a way and structure that it makes sense c.) to properly reference and link back and d.) to come up with an own conclusion or summary.
•   In the case of educational platforms existing sources with criteria are e.g: http://www.cmsmatrix.org/matrix/cms-matrix or http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=388&Itemid=143 and in the case of pastebins existing sources are e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastebin or http://webdevel.blogspot.com/2008/04/pastebin-sites.html

Chat participants:
Eleni, Georgios, Juan, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:
Damerian: found some reports that compare some of the platforms, need to focus on some to analyse and compare them - users experiences still need to be added
Ufuntu: have found some stuff for "quick sharing places" which means pastebins, document sharing places, image hosting, multimedia sharing places and general filesharing places, made some different tabs to add the information; also have some screenshots from last week – following the structure that Damerian described
Paolodi: Delayed with work due to exams – catch up with it once exams are over
Sirjuanlu: checking some of the most important forges I have found, going to foucus in the more important ones. They will be the ones in the chart that are the ones that have relevant data related what we are studing here. Trying to difference between documentation projects which usually are linked to bigger projects such as openoffice, kde, gnome and education projects, that are either documents for lessons and learning software used from the school until the university and masters. So I'll be studing most this projects. what I have in my mind are 2 things:
1. see how many people is behind this projects and try to see if they are part of an organization
2. look for synergies with the work that Giorgios is doing, because I'm sure that this stuff is part of something else, meaning that this is a comfortable way to improve and develop stuff for lessons that afterwards are used in a subject and doing this we can show to the people how joining one of this work groups of people (commiters of a project) their work arrive to an end user. I have found universities around the world that use forges for this propose, such as Harvard, UBA in Agrentina and also oficial European masters are using this kind of platforms, and regional governments as well. Not only for teaching in schools propose but for their owns employees. So those are the things I would like to show

Chat participants:
Georgios, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:

Talked about the text added by Pavlos at http://dwtdi.wikidot.com/blog:whydisseminate – this was still a work in progress with further sources to be added. It was also discussed that the source of the text should be clear as it is by now almost a 1to1 c/p from the reference given at the end of the text. Also the part and background of TAP would need some clarification (what does it stand for, where does it come from, etc.)

Talked about the LMS comparision done by Georgios and how to take this forward – e.g. should LMS be compared, or should traditional LMS be compared with free online learning options. This could be an overview on what is a lms and which are common ones and to write a summary on what those lms are good for (structured learning with official assessment within "CLOSED" environments) and than compare LMS with OPEN web based learning environments like http://www.jiskha.com or http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/home.do?admit=109447627+1214559176293+28353475. Andreas shortly remixed and restructured the work of Georgios to explain to Georgios what he was talking about and also pointed out an article that might be of use: http://chronicle.com/wiredcampus/article/3097/the-battle-between-web-20-and-the-classroom.

Chat participants:
Eleni, Georgios, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:

News & updates since last meeting: not much to report, except that exams now over and thus there would be again more time ;-)
Georgios added another section with alternative LMS (following the suggested strusture) and now will write the conclusions
Eleni asked on the timetable as “we have only 2 weeks and we have to do 1) wiki 2) presentation 3) report, when we must have ready the report and the presentation? can we write that first and then continue with the wiki? I mean we all have found stuff and have some things in mind so maybe is preferable to finish with the report in time and if something is late that should be for example a section in the wiki” not saying “that we will be late, but if something goes wrong, i believe is better to be the wiki and not the report or the presentation”

Timetable learning project(s) and FKFT aspects / work to be done
Andreas suggested to focus by now on the preparation for the FKFT conference (see http://www.netgeners.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=2) also explaining that preparation for FKFT should be done by the 3 groups together - so ideally this work is shared.
As it looks none of the 3 learning projects would be ready prior to FKFT - so they might be completed after the conference.
For this reason a final virtual meeting in September was suggested to present the outcomes of the learning projects.
Everyone should add their comments at http://wiki.netgeners.net/index.php?title=The_future_of_Free_/_Open_Education_-_Part_1 and after a week we see what we have to draw up a presentation for FKFT. Input can be an answer to a question. but it also could be a new question including the answer (in the case you think there are aspects missing for example you can add them).

Chat participants:
Eleni, Juan, Pavlos, Andreas

Topics discussed:
•   Most of the chat dealt with FKFT preperation
•   Eleni experienced problems in uploading slideshows to wikidot, a quick search at wikidot turned out that at least youtube is working and also a general manual for other slideshow hosts (at: http://newsfangled.wikidot.com/slideshow-presentations and http://slideaware.typepad.com/slideaware_support/2007/04/embedding_slide.html)
•   Andreas explained that he thought about editing the set of questions the wikipedia way – (http://wiki.netgeners.net/index.php?title=The_future_of_Free_/_Open_Education_-_Part_1)
•   This means to just edit those ones where you actually have "a story to tell" and also to add further points in the case you think they should be noted
So, editing directly at the wiki and questions / discussion either over forum (http://www.netgeners.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28&topic=29.0) or by mail.
•   By the middle of next week we can see where we are and what is still missing.
•   It is intended to have a group chat on Thursday 19.00 UK time (20.00 Spain / 21.00 Greece) with all 3 groups to discuss final steps and to see what should be taken forward for the FKFT presentation – The chat space still needs to be defined.

Next Chat
Next Thursday 10th of July 19.00 UK time (21.00 Greek time) – to be confirmed
