This category features learning projects related to ‘tools'.
In general one might distinguish between two type of tools: those ones you have installed at you PC (e.g. word processing, drawing or calculation software, instant messaging programmes, or web browser) and those ones that are browser based out at the web (online editing tools like e.g. google docs, search engines, forums, wikis, or multimedia solutions such as youtube or community spaces like e.g. facebook and myspace).
Those tools can help you to compile your own work, to share it with others or to communicate and collaborate with peers.
Do you know which type of tools exist, how to use them to support your learning activities, and which of them are suitable for which purpose?
This learning course is a study on different ways to disseminate any kind of digital information, technical or not. By the end of the course, readers and participants should be able to choose the appropriate platform, depending on their project needs (for example the type of documentation needed and the project orientation). We will demonstrate how different tools can be used in different scopes; for instance, a SCM system is more suitable for a community project with many developers whereas a learning platform is a better choice for a university course. The goal of our study is to set, discuss and compare different aspects of information distribution and management. __________ Chats will take place on freenode (IRC). Dates for next chats and past discussions can be found at: http://www.netgeners.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28&topic=24.0 Instructions for joining the meeting on freenode: 1) Install an IRC client if you don't have one installed alrea ...
1. Project Introduction
Google is the major search engine at the web today
and finding the information you are looking at therefore will greatly depend on
your ability of "talking with Google"
in the right way
2. Project objectives
This learning project shall
provide some practical sessions on talking with Google using different
techniques. As a result it is hoped to provide some useful "do's" and "don'ts".
3. Project tasks and
activities
At this learning project we
will pick up on the advises of Patrick Crisp (http://www.netsquirrel.com/powerpoint/complete.html). We will use different search
techniques for Google searches to see if they provide better search results.
4. Project roadmap
April: Set up some
indicators to be used for different Google searches using indicators provided
by Patrick Crisp
Mai to June: Conduct a
number of searches on Google using those different search techniques and write
down the results of those searches ...
